Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, had telephone conversation for approximately 15 minutes starting from 6:45 p.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017, with H.E. Dr. Mahmoud Abbas, President of Palestine. The overview is as follows.
1. In the beginning, President Abbas extended his congratulations to Minister Kono upon his appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs. In return, Minister Kono expressed his gratitude towards President Abbas and his determination to further enhance relationship between Japan and Palestine as well as Japanese contribution to peace in the Middle East.
2. President Abbas expressed his gratitude towards support which Japan has extended to Palestine and showed his high expectations for the Japanese initiatives such as “Corridor for Peace and Prosperity” and “Conference on the Cooperation among East Asian countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD)”.
