The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, called on all Member States to back a draft resolution on international protection for Palestinian civilian populations, put to vote at the UN General Assembly’s emergency special meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 13 June 2018, at the request of the Islamic and Arab groups.

This move of requesting an emergency meeting, he explained, is part of the General Assembly’s “Uniting for Peace” resolution, and comes in implementation of the final communiqué of the seventh Extraordinary Islamic Summit Conference in Istanbul, held on 18 May 2018, which calls for ensuring international protection to the Palestinian people, due to the Security Council’s failure to issue a resolution on the issue.
