 Part 2

“Annexation in Practice – Palestinian Youth in Jerusalem”

 Thursday, 27 August 2020, 10.00 a.m. – 12.00 p.m. (NY Time)

The UN Palestinian Rights Committee and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will co-organize the International Conference on the Question of Jerusalem on “Annexation in Practice – Palestinian Youth in Jerusalem” as the second event of a series. The event will be held on 27 August 2020 from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. (New York Time), via WebEx. The event will also be livestreamed on UN Web TV.

Following a keynote by H.E. Mr. Fadi Hidmi, Minister of Jerusalem Affairs of the State of Palestine, three experts – Mr. Micha Kurz, former Grassroots Jerusalem and Breaking the Silence; Ms. Reem Natsheh, Women Centre for Legal Aid and Counselling; and Ms. Rochelle Watson, Friends of Sabeel North America – will highlight the lived reality of young Palestinians in East Jerusalem under Israeli occupation and discuss ways to support Palestinian youth-based civil society while they grapple with such occupation.

The Conference aims at raising awareness with international audiences – Member States, civil society and media – about Israeli annexation practices and at highlighting the experience of Palestinian youth, particularly female youth, in Jerusalem. To this end, the Conference will bring together young voices from Jerusalem and the US to discuss ways to sustain the resilience of the Palestinian Jerusalemites and support their socio-economic efforts, cultural works and political engagement.
