 “Delivering Critical Assistance for Palestine Refugees: Challenges and Opportunities in a Complex Context”

The UN Palestinian Rights Committee organized the Virtual Event on “Delivering Critical Assistance for Palestine Refugees: Challenges and Opportunities in a Complex Context”. The event was livestreamed on UN Web TV.

Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA Commissioner-General, and Ms. Gwyn Lewis, Director of UNRWA Operations West Bank, spoke and answered questions from the audience. Introductory statements were delivered by Mohamed Khaled Khiari, Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, H.E. Mr. Riyad Mansour (State of Palestine) and H.E. Mr. Volkan Bozkır, President of the General Assembly. The event was moderated by the Committee’s Chair, H.E. Mr. Cheikh Niang (Senegal). The event aimed to strengthen international support for the rights of Palestinian refugees and mobilize political and financial support to UNRWA, ahead and in support of an international UNRWA conference hosted by Sweden and Jordan in the coming months.

Participants consisted of Committee Members/Observers and the UNRWA representatives, and other Member States. Intergovernmental and civil society organizations as well as the public and media were invited to follow the event and pose questions.
