Title

Rimu Wood Panelling

Gift ID:
124G

On 27 March 1953 the gift was formally presented by Leslie Knox Munro Permanent Representative of New Zealand to the United Nations.  In the Autumn of 1957 the United Nations decided to expand the coat checking facility.  Once again New Zealand agreed to fabricate the necessary wood panels as a gift to the Organization.  This project has been completed in early 1959.  In November 1975 - 22 years after the original installation - a deterioration of the veneer surface as well as the backing of the veneer started to become a real problem.  Understanding this Government of New Zealand expressed the wish to restore their original gift by replacing old panelling with new.  The restoration took place in 1979.
