L’Arbre a etoile
Of the Gift the Secretary General said, "I am hopeful that the painting’s message of peaceful and productive international cooperation inspire all those, whether delegates or staff, who labor here to create a more harmonious world."
This painting, entitled L’Arbre à Etoiles, was created by Monaco’s beloved artist Mr. Claude Rosticher, and was commissioned to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Principality of Monaco’s membership in the United Nations. Executed in 2013 following a design competition which selected Mr. Rosticher’s proposal, this masterpiece features the motifs of the tree, (symbolizing man), and the stars, (representing the nation). The roots of the tree are planted firmly into the ground while its branches reach for the sky, and the stars of the nations are situated together in constellation without regard to each star’s individual size.
