Title

Eternal Peace

Gift ID:
UNNY064G

Eternal Peace is an ink painting on silk depicting pine boughs and a bird. The artwork uses simple palette and gestural markings to evoke a tranquil, and natural setting. Traditionally, in south-east Asian art, pine trees are associated with gentility, longevity, stability, fortitude and steadfastness. The pine in this image is representative of the hope for a steadfast and long-lived state of peace.

Described in correspondence to the Ambassador of Singapore by then-Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim as “beautiful”, this work was gifted to the United Nations by Singapore in 1980.
The subject matter of the work, symbolizing everlasting peace and stability, aligns strongly with the mission of the United Nations.
