This artifact is a round copper plate with mask imprints on it in bas relief.

Zambia has a beautiful and complex masquerade tradition. There are more than one hundred makishi or mask characters from the ethnic groups living in the “Three Corners” region of Zambia, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in central Africa. The makishi embody ancestral spirits and appear as human, animal, hybrid, or abstract figures.

The Government of the Republic of Zambia donated the artifact to the United Nations for exhibition on 6 October 2003.
