UN and Turkey call for innovative startup ideas in Bangladesh and Uganda

The 2nd Global Call for Startups

Calling entrepreneurs working on technologies, services or products which offer solutions to the challenges faced by least developed countries.

The UN Technology Bank wants to hear from you!

We are pleased to be part of the Sustainable Development Goals impact accelerator (SDGia), seeking entrepreneurs to join a global network, receive up to US$15,000, and gain mentorship and support for their initiative.

Two calls are open for innovative ideas, providing impact at scale, to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Bangladesh and Uganda. SDGia is a joint initiative with the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNDP Turkey and the UN Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries. The UN Technology Bank supports science, technology and innovation in least developed countries, this includes entrepreneurs with startup ideas to solve challenges and help achieve the SDGs.

The Process

The SDGia starts with an online Pre-Accelerator Program in February 2021.

Selected teams who complete this program are invited to the online Accelerator Program in April 2021 and receive grants of $15,000.

Graduates of the Accelerator Program who are selected by the jury receive additional funding in the form of impact investment to implement their solution. They will also be invited for field visits and to talk to target customers and users if and when travel restrictions are lifted. Some of the successful teams of the program may also get a chance to showcase their solutions at the Davos Summit and the UN General Assembly.

Digital Agriculture in Uganda

Farmers today, face significant pressures to feed an ever-growing population. Climate change and the pandemic have also resulted in international trade challenges. The need to adopt modern and sustainable farming practices, backed by technology, is evident.

The SDGia digital agriculture call, is aimed at teams around the world working on the urgent transformation of the current agri-food system in Uganda.

The call focuses on the digital agriculture challenge in Uganda and a ‘world with zero hunger.’ It also addresses the building of resilient infrastructure, promoting sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation in agriculture.

Financial Inclusion in Bangladesh

Many people in least developed countries do not have access to basic financial services such as bank accounts, credit, savings, and insurance products.

Financial inclusion is a major element of social inclusion with potential to create major economic and social impact.

The SDGia financial inclusion call for innovative solutions in Bangladesh, is open for both global and local entrepreneurs. The call aims to support an urgent transformation of the current financial system with innovative solutions after COVID-19.
