Our goal is for every young Somali boy and girl to not only understand what the SDGs are<br \/>\nabout, but to be able to digest, personalize and spread its core values to other people within their community.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations has launched a new book club initiative revolving around the SDGs. The aim of this book club is to teach children all about\u00a0building a sustainable world for the future and to raise awareness\u00a0about the SDGs in a fun and engaging way.<\/p>\n<p>Reading helps children develop empathy and through reading a variety of books, children learn about people, places, and events outside of their own experience. We believe in a better future for all of us\u00a0based on the quality education of children and young people who are our next leaders!<\/p>\n<p>Our first SDG Book Club took place on 8 April 2019 in the national library, Hargeisa, from 9am to 12pm. The book, &#8220;A Chair for My Mother,&#8221; by Vera B. Williams was picked to highlight\u00a0and focus on SDG 1: No Poverty. Not only children, but strong SDG\u00a0advocates took part in our first gathering.
