{"id":6310,"date":"2015-06-26T17:13:52","date_gmt":"2015-06-26T17:13:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/?p=6310"},"modified":"2018-04-22T12:09:02","modified_gmt":"2018-04-22T16:09:02","slug":"in-2015-world-must-realize-great-dream-of-sustainable-development-for-all-un-economic-and-social-council-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/blog\/2015\/06\/in-2015-world-must-realize-great-dream-of-sustainable-development-for-all-un-economic-and-social-council-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"In 2015, world must \u2018realize great dream\u2019 of sustainable development for all \u2013 UN Economic and Social Council chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) today opened the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, declaring that 2015 must be the year when the world\u2019s people and leaders realize the dream of a new sustainability agenda.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have already reached agreement on <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/sdgsproposal\">17 proposed sustainable development goals<\/a>,\u201d said ECOSOC President Martin Sajdik, explain that the targets have poverty eradication and the protection of the planet as their overarching objectives and build on the Millennium Development Goals (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/millenniumgoals\/\">MDG<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey also address the structural causes of poverty and inequality and speak to economic and environmental dimensions. They embrace the pursuit of peaceful, inclusive and well governed societies, building on the rule of law, as integral to the development agenda,\u201d he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/ecosoc\/president\/statement_2015\/opening_remarks_hlpf_ecosoc_president_26_june_2015.pdf\">said<\/a>, adding that 2015 must not be only a year when people and leaders shared a great dream.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt must be the year when the world mobilized to realize that dream.
