{"id":17344,"date":"2016-05-19T15:16:07","date_gmt":"2016-05-19T15:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/?p=17344"},"modified":"2018-04-22T12:00:04","modified_gmt":"2018-04-22T16:00:04","slug":"ban-appoints-mexican-diplomat-to-head-un-climate-change-framework","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/blog\/2016\/05\/ban-appoints-mexican-diplomat-to-head-un-climate-change-framework\/","title":{"rendered":"Ban appoints Mexican diplomat to head UN climate change framework"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>United Nations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/\">Secretary-General<\/a> Ban Ki-moon yesterday appointed Patricia Espinosa Cantellano of Mexico as Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (<a href=\"http:\/\/unfccc.int\/2860.php\">UNFCCC<\/a>).<\/p>\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div id=\"story-content\" class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"span8\">\n<div id=\"fullstory\">\n<p>In a statement released by his spokesperson, Mr. Ban said the appointment of Ms. Espinosa Cantellano \u2013 who will succeed Christiana Figueres of Costa Rica \u2013 was made after consultation with the Conference of Parties to the Convention through its Bureau.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2013, Ms. Espinosa Cantellano has been serving as Ambassador of Mexico to Germany, a position she also held from 2001 to 2002.
