{"id":15215,"date":"2016-01-28T22:56:33","date_gmt":"2016-01-28T22:56:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/?p=15215"},"modified":"2018-04-22T12:01:32","modified_gmt":"2018-04-22T16:01:32","slug":"youth-forum-to-explore-youth-role-in-sustainable-development-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/blog\/2016\/01\/youth-forum-to-explore-youth-role-in-sustainable-development-agenda\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth Forum to explore youth role in sustainable development agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Youth leaders to explore expanding role of youth in promoting and implementing 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>UN Youth Forum in New York, 1-2 February 2016<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Over 800 youth leaders from around the world will gather at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum to examine the role of young people in implementing, communicating and realizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n<p>The ECOSOC Youth Forum is a platform for youth to engage UN Member States in a dialogue aimed at expanding their contribution to policy formulation on global economic, social and environmental issues. The 5<sup>th<\/sup> Forum, entitled \u201cYouth Taking Action to Implement the 2030 Agenda,\u201d will explore ways in which young people can play hand-in-hand an active role in building a more sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Forum will feature the launch of the \u201cGlobal Initiative on Decent Jobs for Youth\u201d, the first-ever UN system-wide response to the global youth employment crisis. Led by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the initiative aims to facilitate increased impact and expanded country-level action on decent jobs for youth through multi-stakeholder partnerships, the dissemination of evidence-based policies and the scaling up of effective and innovative interventions, and will be a cornerstone for implementing Sustainable Development Goal 8 on \u201csustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The two-day event will feature brainstorming sessions, interactive panels and discussions with Member States. Participants will focus on key areas, including: education; youth employment and entrepreneurship; climate change; poverty, inequalities and youth empowerment in urban areas; health; peaceful and inclusive societies; and gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, while identifying regional priorities for youth development.<\/p>\n<p>The Forum will showcase innovative partnerships among youth organizations, the UN system, countries, civil society, the private sector and academia to advance sustainable development.
