They will be joined by policymakers, businesses and representatives of civil society.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No country is immune from the harmful effects of a changing climate, and no country acting alone can arrest it,&#8221; The Board said in a statement issued this evening.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Cooperation is essential for meeting this challenge and transforming it into an opportunity for low-emissions, climate resilient growth that benefits all.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Board noted that addressing climate change is necessary for achieving the recently adopted Sustainable Development Goals &#8211; 17 targets that seek to end poverty, reduce inequality and protect the planet by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The accelerated implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals \u00a0will be an essential vehicle for reducing global greenhouse emissions, strengthening resilience and decreasing the negative effects of climate change,&#8221; the Board said.<\/p>\n<p>In their statement, the UN Chief Executives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Urged Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change to\u00a0adopt a universal, ambitious, rights-based and gender-responsive agreement and accompanying decisions in Paris, which will put the world on an urgent pathway to limit global temperature rise to below 2\u00b0C this century;<\/li>\n<li>Committed the UN system to\u00a0provide strong \u00a0support to Member States for developing and implementing their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) ;<\/li>\n<li>Stressed they would\u00a0continue to equally prioritize efforts to build the resilience of people, communities and countries to the adverse effects of climate change, especially the most vulnerable; and\u00a0explore ways to increase access to financing for these efforts, including enhancing ways to leverage private finance with available public finance, in a sustainable manner and with safeguards to protect the public interest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"UN Climate Change Conference Paris 2015\" href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/cop21\/\">Find out more about COP21.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United Nations Chief Executives Board for Coordination on Climate  [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":230,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[20,4,29],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-12406","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-climate-change","category-news","category-sustainable-development-agenda"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12406","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/230"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=12406"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12406\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=12406"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=12406"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=12406"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
