In April 2018, SDG Advocate Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser announced that 10 million school children have received quality primary education through her Education Above All Foundation.

Other world leaders, including UN Secretary-General Guterres, President Akufo-Addo of Ghana, and NGO leaders, joined her in celebrating this important milestone at an event at the New York Public Library on 27 April 2018.

In 2012, Her Highness Sheikha Moza promised to empower 10 million school children in some of the most challenging situations around the world.  Through working with 82 global partners across different sectors in 50 countries, tackling the roots of the problem of barriers to education, the Education Above All Foundation has reached this goal. Congratulations to Her Highness Sheikha Moza for this significant achievement, and for her continued efforts to achieve the SDGs.

Speaking at the event, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said “Our dream of a sustainable future cannot be realized if we do not support children’s dreams to gain an education. When we educate a child we give her more than books, papers, pencils, or a calculator. We give her the tools, skills and imagination she needs to shape the world around her and to make her community, and her society, better, more prosperous, and more peaceful.”
