The UN is convening its first Ocean Conference this June to spark action that will reverse the steady deterioration of the health of the oceans. While people living in coastal communities have been witness to the ongoing decline in ocean health, this trend has major implications for people everywhere. Why is this conference happening now and what are its expected outcomes? We asked some of the key participants in the Conference.

Participants:
– H.E. Mr. Peter Thomson, President of the General Assembly
– H.E. Ms. Isabella Lövin, Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden
– Hon. Mr. Semi Koroilavesau, Minister for Fisheries of Fiji
– Mr. Wu Hongbo, UN Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs
