“We are better investing now because we just won’t be able to afford it later.”

Amina J. Mohammed, the Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Post-2015 Development Planning, talks about the new sustainable development agenda and how the time to act is now.

The 17 sustainable development goals will be formally adopted by the 193 member states in September at the post-2015 development summit in New York.

Ms Mohammed says the process of developing the goals up to this point has been the most transparent and broad process that has ever taken place within the United Nations. Civil societies, businesses and parliamentarians have all been involved in developing the economic, social and environmental agendas.

“For the first time we’re not putting a band-aid on the problem, we’re looking at the root causes.”
