Geneva (UNOSDP) — On the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), celebrated on April 6, the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace organized a photo exhibition to raise awareness about the power of sport.

The photo exhibition was built on UNOSDP’s online campaign for this year's IDSDP, #WePlayTogether, and showcased the role of sport to promote peace, unity and inclusion through selected pictures from UN entities and other key players in the field of Sport for Development and Peace.

On the occasion of the 2017 International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) on 6 April, the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) launches the digital campaign #WePlayTogether to encourage organizations and individuals who support or carry out sport for development and peace activities to partake in the commemoration of the IDSDP.

The Walk for Peace Foundation will partner with UNOSDP in order to host a Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) Camp, the flagship educational initiative of the UNOSDP designed for young people working in grassroots sports projects in developing countries, with the goal of organizing a Camp annually in the People’s Republic of China together with local and international partners.

Geneva, Switzerland (UNOSDP) – On 16 December, a Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed by the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, Mr. Wilfried Lemke, and International Wheelchair Basketball Federation President, Mr. Ulf Mehrens.

UNOSDP (New York) - Recognizing the potential of sport as a valuable tool in the promotion of education, health, development and peace, the General Assembly today adopted a resolution by consensus, reaffirming sport’s use to bring about positive social change, build a peaceful and better world.

New York and Geneva (UNOSDP)  — On 6 December, H.E. Mr. Heiko Thoms, Ambassador, Deputy Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations, hosted a reception in New York to bid farewell to the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace. Wilfried Lemke was joined by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to mark the end of his 8-year term as the top UN official on sport.

The Special Adviser took the opportunity to thank the Secretary-General for having trusted him to carry out this work for the last years.

Geneva, Switzerland (UNOSDP) — On December 14, a Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed at the Palais des Nations in Geneva by the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, Mr. Wilfried Lemke and the CEO and co-founder of Football for Peace (FFP), Mr. Kashif Siddiqi and Mr. Jayray Jadeja.

The Norway Cup will host a Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) Camp, the flagship educational initiative of the UNOSDP designed for young people working in grassroots sports projects in developing countries, from 26 July to 6 August in Oslo focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals.

A corresponding Letter of Intent was signed today between the UNOSDP and the Bækkelagets Sportsklub/Norway Cup (BSKNC), supporting achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations’ goals and objectives in the areas of peace, development and human rights, education and health.

A corresponding Letter of Intent was signed on 13 December between the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) and the Football Association (FA), which has been investing into developing, supporting and empowering a network of diverse young people, to lead and serve the needs of the modern game in the long-term.

Geneva, Switzerland (UNOSDP) - The World Forum on Sport and Culture was held from 19 to 22 October in Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan, including a conference on “Sport for Tomorrow” featuring the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, Mr. Wilfried Lemke, as a keynote speaker.
