The Secretary-General condemns the killing this morning of a peacekeeper from the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) in Bangui.
MINUSCA peacekeepers were attacked by an armed group during a search operation intended to arrest a suspected criminal in application of a judicial warrant from the Public Prosecutor of Bangui. One peacekeeper was killed and eight were injured. MINUSCA arrested three suspects in the operation.
The Secretary-General deplores in the strongest terms attacks against United Nations peacekeepers and calls for swift action to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice. He further calls on all armed groups to respect the impartiality of MINUSCA.
The Secretary-General reiterates the commitment of the United Nations to support the Central African authorities in their fight against criminality and putting an end to impunity, in line with MINUSCA's mandate and within its area of deployment.
The Secretary-General offers his condolences to the bereaved family and to the Government and people of Cameroon. He wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.

Le Secrétaire général condamne la mort d'un casque bleu de la Mission intégrée multidimensionnelle de stabilisation des Nations Unies en République centrafricaine (MINUSCA), tué ce matin à Bangui.
Les casques bleus de la MINUSCA ont été attaqués par un groupe armé au cours d'une opération visant à interpeller un individu suspecté de crimes en application d'un mandat émis par le Procureur de la République de Bangui. Uncasque bleu a été tué et huit autres blessés. Trois suspects ont été interpellés par la MINUSCA au cours de l'opération.
Le Secrétaire général déplore dans les termes les plus forts these attaques contre des casques bleus des Nations Unies et demande que leurs auteurs soient rapidement traduits en justice. Il lance un appel à tous les groupes armés afin qu'ils respectent l'impartialité de la MINUSCA.
Le Secrétaire général réitère l'engagement des Nations Unies à soutenir les autorités de la République centrafricaine dans leur lutte contre la criminalité et l'impunité, conformément au mandat de la MINUSCA et dans les zones ou elle est présente.
Le Secrétaire général présente ses condoléances à la famille du défunt et au Gouvernement et au peuple du Cameroun. Il souhaite un prompt rétablissement aux blessés.
