05 April 2016, Los Angeles

Address to the Los Angeles World Affairs Council

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank you for your warm welcome.

It is a pleasure to be making my sixth visit to California as Secretary-General.

I visit often because California is a hub of global action, from commerce to culture to climate change. But I must confess that, as a big fan of action movies, the sight of the Hollywood sign up in the hills is almost as exciting as seeing the UN’s blue flag each day at our Headquarters in New York!

I thank the good friends of the United Nations who have made tonight’s gathering possible.

30 March 2016, Stockholm

Your Excellency Prime Minister Löfven,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am pleased to be back in Sweden for my fifth visit as Secretary-General.

I am grateful to the Prime Minister and the Government of Sweden for their warm welcome.

Most of all, I would like to express my appreciation to the people of Sweden for their outstanding efforts to safeguard and promote the values and objectives enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

30 March 2016, Stockholm

Remarks at Dag Hammarskjöld lecture: “Evolving Threats, Timeless Values: The United Nations In A Changing Global Landscape”

I thank the Government and people of Sweden for a very warm welcome.

It is a singular honour to be in this magnificent and legendary City Hall … among this most distinguished audience ... to deliver a lecture named for a towering hero of humanity.

Dag Hammarskjöld was Swede through and through, but he also belonged to the world.

I feel both privileged and humbled to be serving in the role he once filled so masterfully.

Press remarks at Qobbeh Social Development Centre

Dear officials, dear colleagues, Assalam Alekum to all. It is a great pleasure for me to open this Social Development Centre.

I am very happy to see that the UN system, UNDP, UNICEF and UNRWA and all other organizations are working very closely with the community leaders to provide education, vocational training, sanitation support and some psychological support, and also a safe place to watch our women and children there. This is a very important place.
