Remarks to the ECOSOC Operational Activities Segment

I welcome this opportunity to provide an update to these ECOSOC Operational Activities Segment.

You have before you my first report to the Council since the landmark General Assembly resolution 72/279 on the repositioning of the UN development system.

The report outlines progress not only in response to direct mandates of the Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review, usually designated as QCPR and General Assembly resolution, but also on all measures I am taking to ensure effective, cohesive and accountable support to the 2030 Agenda.

Opening Remarks to the 2019 ECOSOC Financing for Development Forum

I am pleased to join you at this critical moment for governments, businesses, and societies to accelerate action for sustainable development.

Opening remarks to the press after visit to the UNRWA Baqa’a camp

It was a very emotional moment for me to enter the classroom of the UNRWA school for Palestine refugees and to see young children learning about and discussing human rights, and then to participate in a student parliament. And to see that in 700 schools, 530,000 Palestine refugee children are learning not only about science and about mathematics or about Arabic, but are learning about human rights, about democracy, about tolerance, making the conditions to be exemplary citizens. And this is something that warms my heart.
