Remarks on value of Hosting Mega Sport Events as a Social, Economic and Environmental Sustainable Development Tool

It is a great pleasure to participate in this event.

I thank the Permanent Missions of Germany, the State of Qatar, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation and Tunisia for bringing us together.

Sport has a tremendous – and in many ways unique – power to unite.

So-called “mega sport events”, such as the World Cup and the Olympic and Paralympic Games, can spread that spirit of unity in mega-ways.

These events gather thousands of athletes and millions of fans. They attract media attention and inspire people from all over the globe.

Remarks at the International Civil Aviation Organization Council

It is a pleasure to be back at the International Civil Aviation Organization. I have very happy memories of joining you here in Montreal in 2004, when I attended the 35th ICAO Assembly as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea.

ICAO has always had a special place in the international community, linking us all and enabling us to travel the world safely and with confidence.

ICAO is now addressing some of the most pressing issues on the global agenda.

Keynote address at McGill University - "Threats and Opportunities: The Power of Young People to Shape a New Future"

Ladies and gentlemen,

Thank you for your warm welcome.

I have come to Montreal from New York – and tonight the Montreal Canadiens are in New York to play the Buffalo Sabres.

I am a diplomat so I should not take sides in any situation, including a hockey game – but let me just say: Go, Habs, go!

Ladies and gentlemen,

McGill has sent many people onto the world stage.

Remarks at Informal Interactive Stakeholder Consultation for General Assembly Special Session on World Drug Problem

I welcome this opportunity to speak to you ahead of the UN General Assembly Special Session on the world drug problem, to be held from 19 to 21 April this year.

This year, we begin the important work of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This will require collective partnership and solid commitment.

We will not be able to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals without the bold and courageous assistance of civil society.

This applies equally to addressing the world drug problem.
