Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic of France

The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic of France. The Secretary-General and the President discussed peace and security issues in Africa and the Middle East, namely the situations in Libya, Syria, the Central African Republic and Mali, as well as the establishment of the G5 Sahel Force.  In that regard, the Secretary-General welcomed France’s active support and contribution to the international community’s efforts, both at the country and at the regional levels, to address these conflicts.

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Moon Jae-in, President of the Republic of Korea.
 
The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for the Republic of Korea’s important contributions to the United Nations, including through support to the Sustainable Development Goals. He furthermore noted that many around the world take inspiration from the Republic of Korea’s own economic development model.

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Jacob Zuma, President of the Republic of South Africa.

The Secretary-General thanked South Africa for its contribution to peace and security in Africa, including in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Secretary-General and President Zuma also discussed regional efforts to support peace and dialogue in Burundi. They also exchanged views on the importance of multilateralism to advancing the international development and peace and security agendas.

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
 
The Secretary-General and the President discussed cooperation between the United Nations and Tajikistan, notably in the field of transboundary water management, sustainable development and 2030 Agenda.
 
They also exchanged views on regional developments and the situation in Afghanistan.

The Secretary-General congratulated Bolivia for the role it has played in the Security Council this year. The Secretary-General and President Morales discussed efforts undertaken toward the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Prime Minister and the Secretary-General also discussed efforts undertaken to reform the United Nations in the management, development and peace and security areas.
