Secretary-General's video message for the Opening of the Ban Ki-moon Peace Museum

António Guterres, Secretary-General

Ladies and gentlemen,

I am pleased to take part in the opening of this Peace Museum in honour of my esteemed predecessor and friend, Ban Ki-moon.

It is particularly fitting that this museum is in his hometown of Eumseong County because Ban Ki-moon has never forgotten where he came from.

What a remarkable life story -- growing up in war-ravaged Korea and rising up to lead the world organization that helped his country in its greatest time of need.

Ban Ki-moon took what he learned in his hometown to serve the world.

With passion and compassion, he led the United Nations putting the global spotlight on the climate change challenge, forging a new blueprint for sustainable development and serving as a constant advocate for the voiceless and vulnerable.

I have no doubt that for years to come, this Peace Museum will help people better understand the legacy of Ban Ki-moon and encourage them to continue his mission to build a better world for all.

My warmest wishes and congratulations.  Thank you.
