Remarks at Global Citizen Festival

Ban Ki-moon

Thank you, Stevie.

Good evening, Central Park.

What a beautiful crowd! I thank the Global Citizen Festival for bringing us together tonight.

I am thrilled to be on stage with so many committed artists.

Bono has done so much to put poverty on the global agenda.

Stevie Wonder is an amazing United Nations Messenger of Peace.

But tonight so are you.

The United Nations thanks you for taking action to end poverty.

There is so much energy here tonight. We can power the world.

Together, we can put every girl and boy in school.

We can stop diseases.

We can empower the world’s women, and protect our environment – this beautiful planet that is our only home.

Tonight’s festival – and all of you – are leading the way.

Thank you for being global citizens.

Remember: the UN starts with “U”.

Let’s continue to build a better world for all.

Thank you.
