Deputy Secretary-General's Closing remarks: Transforming Education Pre-Summit [as prepared for delivery]

Honorable Ministers,

Chair of the UNESCO Executive Board,

UNESCO Deputy Director-General,

Dear friends,

We have reached the end of a seismic week for transforming education.

So much energy. So much discussion.

So many ideas, with the education community, particularly education ministers, out in force in a way not seen for years.

We were joined in person by over 1,850 people.

We were joined by 2 Heads of State and 154 Ministers and Deputy-Ministers of Education who brought a crucial national perspective to transformation.

Deputy Secretary-General's Opening remarks: Side-event on innovative financing for lower middle-income countries [as prepared for delivery]

Right Honourable Gordon Brown,

Distinguished ministers,

Dear friends,

Good morning.

As you know, I have regrettably joined Gordon and many others on the list of those who would have wanted nothing more than to be with you in person today.

But I take solace from the fact that even from my hotel, I can feel the momentum growing towards September.
