Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General - on Ukraine and the Russian Federation

The Secretary-General welcomes the announcement of a three-day ceasefire, from 9 to 11 May, and of the planned large-scale exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. The Secretary-General commends the efforts of the United States in facilitating this agreement and fully supports its implementation.

The Secretary-General reiterates his call for an immediate, full, unconditional and lasting ceasefire, as a first step toward a just, sustainable and comprehensive peace, in line with the UN Charter, international law and relevant UN resolutions.
