The Secretary-General sends heartfelt wishes to the people of Colombia and the parties to the Final Peace Agreement on the Sixth Anniversary of its historic signing. He recalls his visit to Colombia exactly one year ago and he notes that hopes and expectations for a firm and lasting peace have only increased, both in Colombia and abroad.

The Secretary-General is greatly encouraged by the commitment of the Colombian Government to redouble efforts towards the sound implementation of the Agreement, as the cornerstone of its "Total Peace" policy, which has already given birth to hopeful new dialogues for peace. He also commends the steadfast commitment of the former FARC-EP towards peace consolidation.  Much has been achieved towards a more peaceful and inclusive Colombia. Yet, more still needs to be done, especially to bring security and development to regions still afflicted by violence and poverty, where ethnic communities are the most affected, as well as to ensure redress to victims and to foster reconciliation.  

There are still many challenges ahead, but Colombia is not alone on its difficult journey which continues to inspire the world.  The Secretary-General reaffirms the full support of the United Nations. 

El Secretario General envía sus más sentidos deseos al pueblo de Colombia y a las partes del Acuerdo Final de Paz con ocasión del Sexto Aniversario de su histórica firma. Recuerda su visita a Colombia hace exactamente un año y destaca que las esperanzas y expectativas de una paz firme y duradera no han hecho más que aumentar, tanto en Colombia como en el exterior.

El Secretario General se ve muy alentado por el compromiso del Gobierno colombiano de redoblar esfuerzos en la implementación del Acuerdo, como eje de su propuesta de "Paz Total", que ya está generando nuevos y prometedores diálogos de paz. También elogia el firme compromiso de las antiguas FARC-EP con la consolidación de la paz. Se han producido importantes avances hacia una Colombia más pacífica e inclusiva pero todavía queda mucho por hacer, especialmente para llevar seguridad y desarrollo a las regiones que aún sufren la violencia y la pobreza, dónde las comunidades étnicas se ven especialmente afectadas, así como garantizar la reparación de las víctimas y fomentar la reconciliación.

Faltan muchos desafíos por superar, pero Colombia no está sola en este difícil viaje que continúa inspirando al mundo entero. El Secretario General reafirma el pleno apoyo de las Naciones Unidas.
