The Secretary-General takes note of the announcement of the provisional results of the presidential election in Guinea by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). He reiterates his call to all actors to resolve electoral disputes through established legal mechanisms and to refrain from violence.

The Secretary-General strongly condemns the violence that occurred following the 18 October presidential election. He calls in particular on the President of the Republic of Guinea and the leader of the opposition to prevail on their supporters to immediately end the violence and engage in meaningful dialogue to find a peaceful solution to the post-electoral crisis. 
 
The Secretary-General also urges opinion leaders and the media to desist from inflammatory rhetoric and divisive appeals based on ethnicity.
 
The United Nations stands ready to support a dialogue process towards a rapid and peaceful resolution of the crisis.

Le Secrétaire général prend note de la proclamation des résultats provisoires par la Commission électorale nationale indépendante (CENI) de l’élection présidentielle en Guinée.  Il réitère son appel à tous les acteurs pour qu’ils règlent tout contentieux électoral en empruntant les mécanismes juridiques établis et à s’abstenir de toute violence.

Le Secrétaire général condamne fermement les violences survenues au lendemain de l’élection présidentielle du 18 octobre. Il lance un appel, en particulier, au Président de la République de Guinée et au chef de l’opposition de persuader leurs sympathisants de mettre immédiatement fin à la violence et d’entamer un dialogue constructif pour trouver une solution pacifique à la crise post-électorale.  

Le Secrétaire général exhorte également les leaders d’opinion et la presse à mettre un terme à tous discours incendiaires et appels à la dissension d’inspiration ethniciste.

L’Organisation des Nations unies se tient prête à accompagner un processus de dialogue visant à un règlement rapide et pacifique de la crise post-électorale en Guinée.
