Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General - on the Democratic Republic of the Congo [scroll down for French]

The Secretary-General is concerned by the ongoing violence in the Irumu territory, notably in the border areas of Ituri and North Kivu provinces, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Recent attacks have once again led to the killing of many civilians. The area continues to experience inter- community violence but also remains under threat by members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). 
  
The Secretary-General reiterates the support of the United Nations to the Congolese authorities in bringing to justice the perpetrators of attacks against civilians, national security forces and peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  He reaffirms the commitment of the United Nations to supporting the people and Government of the DRC in their efforts to bring about peace and stability in the east of the country.

Déclaration attribuable au Porte-parole du Secrétaire général sur la République démocratique du Congo

 
Le Secrétaire général exprime son inquiétude face à la violence continue dans le territoire d’Irumu, notamment à la frontière de l’Ituri et du Nord Kivu, en République démocratique du Congo. Les attaques récentes ont une fois de plus causé la mort de nombreux civils. Cette zone continue de subir des violences intercommunautaires tout en demeurant la cible de membres des Forces démocratiques alliées (ADF).  

Le Secrétaire général réitère le soutien des Nations Unies aux autorités congolaises pour traduire en justice les auteurs d'attaques contre des civils, les forces de sécurité nationales et les Casques bleus en République Démocratique du Congo. Il réaffirme l’engagement des Nations Unies à soutenir le peuple et le gouvernement de la RDC dans leurs efforts pour instaurer la paix et la stabilité dans l'est du pays.
