Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General - on Burkina Faso (scroll down for French)

The Secretary-General strongly condemns this morning’s attack on a Catholic Church during mass, in the village of Dablo, in the Center-North Region of Burkina Faso.
 
He expresses his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.

He recalls the sanctity of all places of worship and hopes the perpetrators can be swiftly brought to justice.
 
The Secretary-General conveys the solidarity of the United Nations to the Government and people of Burkina Faso in this difficult moment for the nation. He urges all citizens of Burkina Faso to stand firmly with one another across communities and not to succumb to efforts to sow discord and breed further violence.  The UN stands ready to assist in any way it can.

Le Secrétaire général condamne fermement l'attaque perpétrée contre une église catholique lors d'une messe dans le village de Dablo, dansla région du Centre-Nord du Burkina Faso. 
 
Le Secrétaire général adresse ses plus sincères condoléances aux familles des défunts et souhaite un prompt rétablissement aux blessés.
 
Il rappelle le caractère sacré de tous les lieux de culte et espère que les auteurs de cette attaque pourront être rapidement traduits en justice.
 
Le Secrétaire général exprime la solidarité des Nations Unies avec le gouvernement et le peuple du Burkina Faso en cette période difficile pour la nation. Il exhorte tous les citoyens burkinabé de tous horizons à rester unis et à résister aux tentatives visant à semer la discorde et à engendrer de nouvelles violences. Les Nations unies restent disposées à apporter toute l’aide possible au Burkina Faso.
