In the lead up to presidential and gubernatorial elections scheduled for 24 March, the Secretary-General calls on all national stakeholders to renew their commitment to a transparent and peaceful vote that includes the full participation of women.
The Secretary-General underlines the importance of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms as well as the professional and impartial conduct of law enforcement officials during the elections. He stresses the primacy of dialogue and calls on all stakeholders to address any potential electoral dispute through the appropriate legal channels.
The United Nations will continue to support the people of Comoros, in consultation with the African Union, the Southern African Development Community, the International Organization of the Francophonie and the Indian Ocean Commission.

Déclaration attribuable au porte-parole du Secrétaire général sur les Comores
Dans la perspective des élections présidentielles et des gouverneurs prévues le 24 mars, le Secrétaire général appelle toutes les parties prenantes nationales à renouveler leur engagement en faveur d’un scrutin transparent et pacifique qui inclut une pleine participation des femmes.
Le Secrétaire général rappelle l’importance du respect des droits de l’homme et des libertés fondamentales, ainsi que de la conduite professionnelle et impartiale des forces de l’ordre tout au long des élections. Le Secrétaire général met l’accent sur la primauté du dialogue et exhorte tous les acteurs impliques dans ces élections à résoudre tout litige électoral potentiel à travers les voies légales appropriées.
Les Nations Unies continueront à apporter leur soutien au peuple des Comores en collaboration avec l’Union africaine, la Communauté de Développement d’Afrique Australe, l’Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie et la Commission de l’Océan Indien.
