The Secretary-General notes the announcement of the final results of the presidential elections by the High Constitutional Court of Madagascar and congratulates President-elect Andry Rajoelina.  He also commends all stakeholders for the peaceful and orderly conclusion of the presidential election.
 
The Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) and the High Constitutional Court (HCC), civil society and religious leaders, as well as the leadership of the Government, should be also commended for being part of this historic milestone.
 
The Secretary-General will continue to follow developments in the country through his Special Adviser, Mr. Abdoulaye Bathily, with the support of the United Nations Country Team, and in close coordination with the African Union, the Southern African Development Community and other international partners. The United Nations remains fully committed to supporting the Government and people of Madagascar in the consolidation of democracy, human rights and sustainable development.

Déclaration attribuable au porte-parole du Secrétaire général sur Madagascar
 
Le Secrétaire général prend note de l’annonce des résultats finaux des élections présidentielles par la Haute cour constitutionnelle de Madagascar et félicite le Président élu Andry Rajoelina. Il félicite également toutes les parties prenantes pour l’achèvement pacifique et en bon ordre des élections présidentielles. 
 
La Commission électorale nationale indépendante (CENI) et la Haute cour constitutionnelle (HCC), la société civile et les leaders religieux, ainsi que le leadership du Gouvernement, doivent être  aussi félicités pour le rôle qu’ils ont joué dans cet évènement historique.
 
Le Secrétaire général continuera à suivre les développements dans le pays au travers de son Conseiller spécial, M. Abdoulaye Bathily, avec le soutien de l’équipe de pays des Nations Unies sur le terrain, et en étroite collaboration avec l’Union africaine, la Communauté de Développement d’Afrique Australe et les autres partenaires internationaux. Les Nations unies demeurent pleinement déterminées à appuyer le Gouvernement et le peuple de Madagascar dans la consolidation de la démocratie, des droits de l’homme et du développement durable.
