Secretary-General's video message for "Women in Leadership: Through the Lens of the Public, Private, and Media Sectors" Conference organized by the Association of Women Ambassadors

Women’s leadership can unlock transformational change.
But globally, women have only about a quarter of all parliament seats and top media jobs.
In news media worldwide, women are reduced to less than a quarter of all people seen, heard or read about.
In films, women have less than a third of all speaking roles.
We have to give more opportunities to interested, diverse and capable women.
We have to uphold laws and policies that promote gender balance.
Most of all, we have to break down stereotypes – and build up a culture of equality.
The United Nations is committed to advancing gender equality – and promoting women’s leadership in public life.
Thank you for examining this issue, which is critical to a life of dignity for all.
Thank you.
