Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on the closure of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI)
The Secretary-General welcomes the closure of the United Nations Operation in Cote d’Ivoire (UNOCI) on 30 June 2017, after having successfully achieved its mandate.
The Secretary-General congratulates the people and Government of Cote d’Ivoire for their determination and efforts in turning the page of crisis and conflict. He commends the significant contributions of all partners national, regional and international in the Ivoirian peace process.
The Secretary-General is appreciative of the excellent leadership of his Special Representative for Cote d’Ivoire, Aïchatou Mindaoudou, and her predecessors. He also pays tribute to all uniformed and civilian personnel who served with UNOCI, and expresses his profound respect for the memory of the 150 peacekeepers who lost their life in the service of peace during the 13 years of deployment of the Mission. He expresses his gratitude to all troop and police contributing countries.
The Secretary-General reiterates the commitment of the rest of the United Nations family present in Cote d’Ivoire to support the Government with the implementation of outstanding reform activities with a view to ensuring that the hard won peace can be sustained and the country and its people will continue to progress and thrive.

Déclaration attribuable au Porte-parole du Secrétaire général à l’occasion de la fermeture de l’Opération des Nations Unies en Côte d’Ivoire (ONUCI)
Le Secrétaire général salue la fermeture de l’Opération des Nations Unies en Côte d’Ivoire (ONUCI), le 30 juin 2017, après avoir mené son mandat à terme avec succès.
Le Secrétaire général félicite le peuple et le gouvernement de la Côte d’Ivoire pour leur détermination et leurs efforts visant à tourner la page de la crise et du conflit. Il salue la contribution considérable de l’ensemble des partenaires nationaux, régionaux et internationaux au processus de paix ivoirien.
Le Secrétaire général exprime sa reconnaissance pour l’excellent leadership de sa Représentante spéciale pour la Côte d’Ivoire, Aïchatou Mindaoudou, et de ses prédécesseurs. Il rend également hommage à l’ensemble du personnel en uniforme et du personnel civil ayant servi au sein de l’ONUCI, et salue avec un profond respect la mémoire des 150 casques bleus qui ont payé de leur vie le service de la paix durant les 13 années de déploiement de la mission. Il exprime sa gratitude à l’ensemble des pays contributeurs de troupes et de police.
Le Secrétaire général réaffirme l’engagement de l’ensemble du système des Nations Unies en Côte d’Ivoire à soutenir le Gouvernement dans la mise en œuvre des réformes visant à garantir que la paix chèrement acquise soit durable et que le pays et sa population poursuivent leur marche vers le progrès et la prospérité.
