I am pleased to convey my greetings to all those gathered for Global HR Forum 2016.
You are meeting at a crucial moment. We at the United Nations are in the first year of implementation of the landmark 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Agenda – and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals – is the world’s blueprint for ending poverty and building lives of peace and dignity on a healthy planet.
The topics that you will take up at this year’s Forum are at the heart of the sustainable development challenge. Developing and managing human resources to create a sustainable global prosperity are critical to meeting our goals.
The Agenda also highlights the importance of achieving gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls. We must ensure the full participation of women in economic, civil and work life. I encourage you to take leadership and fully integrate women into the workforce at all levels. Together, we can help achieve Planet 50-50 – full gender equality – by the year 2030.
To reach all of our goals, public and private actors must work together, with public policies providing an enabling environment for private action.
You are helping to nurture that spirit of collective global problem solving at this Forum. You represent ministries, the private sector, universities and other institutions. You have enormous power to drive change for lasting good.
I count on your strong commitment and engagement.
