The Secretary-General met with H.E Ms. Nanaia Mahuta, Minister for Foreign Affairs of New Zealand at the ASEAN summit.

The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation of New Zealand’s role in multilateral diplomacy, especially in support of the Sustainable Development Goals, the fight against climate change and support for Small Island Developing States.

They had a constructive exchange of views on the international and regional efforts in relation to the situation in Myanmar.

The Secretary-General also shared with the Minister for Foreign Affairs his perspective for the upcoming COP28 and the Climate Ambition Summit which he is convening in New York later this month with the aim to lead to greater political impulse.
