On Friday, 2 December, the Secretary-General spoke by phone to H.E. Mr. Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
During the discussion, the Secretary-general raised the implications of arms exports by Iran in the context of resolution 2231, the prospects for a ceasefire and a political solution to the Yemeni crisis as well as the need to use restraint when dealing with demonstrations in Iran.
The discussion also touched upon regional cooperation, the JCPOA and Iranian participation in multilateral institutions.
