Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Prime Minister of the State of Qatar

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Prime Minister of the State of Qatar.

The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister discussed several regional issues of mutual concern, including the need for the Cessation of Hostilities in Syria to take root and lead to a real political transition.

The Secretary-General thanked Qatar for its contributions to reconstruction in Gaza, but underlined the vital importance of providing funding for UNRWA to enable Palestinian children to receive education.

Regarding Libya, the Secretary-General stressed the urgent need for the various parties to endorse the new Government of National Accord and to unite in order to confront the serious challenges facing the country, including Da’esh.

On Yemen, the Secretary-General urged those with influence over the parties to ensure that the talks in Kuwait lead to a fruitful outcome, and underlined the very severe humanitarian situation for millions of Yemenis.

The Secretary-General also praised Qatar’s important role on climate change.
