The Secretary-General met on 29 September 2015 with H.E. Mr. Tomislav Nikolic, President of the Republic of Serbia. The Secretary-General and Mr. Nikolic welcomed the milestone adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Secretary-General noted the importance of all countries now reflecting these in national legislation and policies.
They also discussed recent developments in the Western Balkans and in Ukraine. The Secretary-General welcomed the recent progress in the EU-facilitated Belgrade–Pristina dialogue. The Secretary-General stressed that the UN, guided by Security Council Resolution 1244, would continue to support the normalization process between Belgrade and Pristina.
The Secretary-General noted the importance of preserving Serbian Orthodox cultural heritage in Kosovo and the responsibility of authorities in Pristina in that regard. The Secretary-General also commended Serbia for its efforts as Chairman-in-Office of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), including in relation to the conflict in Ukraine.
