Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Ms. Cristina Fernández, President of the Republic of Argentina

The Secretary-General met with President Cristina Fernández of Argentina.  They discussed Argentina’s debt and the implications of the Argentine case for sovereign debt restructuring efforts.  The Secretary-General stated his belief that this was an important issue for Member States to discuss further. 

The Secretary-General also expressed appreciation for Argentina’s important contributions to the United Nations, including to peacekeeping and as a member of the Security Council. 

They also exchanged views on global issues, including women, youth and education.
