The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Yuval Steinitz, Minister of Strategic and Intelligence Affairs responsible for International Relations of Israel.
The Secretary-General and Mr. Steinitz exchanged views on the Middle East Peace Process. They spoke about the situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, particularly in Gaza. The Secretary-General reiterated the importance of allowing more essential goods for Palestinians to enter Gaza.
They also discussed the challenging security environment in the region. The Secretary-General emphasized the importance of all actors exercising restraint. They further exchanged views on the Iranian nuclear issue.
Finally, the Secretary-General and Mr. Steinitz discussed efforts towards convening a Conference on the Establishment of a Middle-East zone free of nuclear weapons and all other weapons of mass destruction.
