The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Gerd Müller, Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany.
The Secretary-General commended Germany for its strong support for the UN's development work. The Secretary-General and the Minister discussed the importance of achieving the Millennium Development Goals as well as the on-going deliberations on the Post-2015 development agenda and Germany's active participation on these issues. The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for Germany's contributions to development cooperation, including its strong support for health initiatives through the Global Fund and to mother and child health. They also discussed Germany's development focus on Africa and prospects for increasing support through private-public partnerships. Finally, they discussed the imperative of tackling climate change, with the Secretary-General briefing the Minister on preparations for the 23 September 2014 Climate Summit that he will be hosting in New York.
