The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly of the People’s Power of Cuba today. They discussed Cuba’s progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals and advances in the field of health.

They also spoke of the implementation of the Guidelines on social and economic policy and the discussions that had taken place in the National Assembly on these reforms.

The Secretary-General underscored the important role of parliaments and women's participation, and noted Cuba's strong record in this regard.
