Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Børge Brende, Foreign Minister of Norway

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Børge Brende, the new Foreign Minister of Norway. They exchanged views on the critical situation in the Philippines as well as how to best deliver humanitarian assistance. The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister also discussed the humanitarian crisis in Syria and the imperative of finding a political solution to the conflict, the prospects for agreement with Iran in the 5 + 1 talks and the current status of the Middle East Peace Process.

The Secretary-General commended the Foreign Minister for Norway’s significant role in assisting with the reform efforts in Myanmar. The also discussed Sustainable Development and Climate Change as well as Norway’s contribution to the Millennium Development Goals.
