The Secretary-General met with the President of South Africa, H.E. Mr. Jacob Zuma, in Addis Ababa today. They exchanged views on recent developments in the Central African Republic (CAR), the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Madagascar.
On CAR, the Secretary-General thanked South Africa for its contribution to the efforts to resolve the crisis in the country. They also discussed efforts by Special Envoy Mary Robinson to implement the DRC Framework as well as efforts by regional organizations, such as ICGLR and SADC.
The Secretary-General also expressed his appreciation for South Africa’s important contribution to peace and stability in the SADC region. The Secretary-General and President Zuma also discussed developments in Madagascar and how the current impasse could be overcome.
