Readout of the Secretary-General’s telephone call with the Emir of Kuwait

The Secretary-General spoke today by telephone with the Emir of Kuwait, H.H. Sheikh Sabah al Ahmad al Jaber al Sabah, and thanked him for Kuwait's generous contribution of US$300 million for those affected by the humanitarian crisis in Syria and its neighbouring countries.

Thanks to Kuwait’s leadership and generosity, the Secretary-General said, the United Nations has now received approximately half of the US$1.5 billion pledged at the Kuwait conference. He also reiterated his appreciation for Kuwait's hosting of the International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria in January this year.

The Secretary-General said he was committed to doing whatever he could to help to peacefully resolve the crisis in Syria.
