The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Ms. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, on the margins of 20th Summit of the African Union in Addis Ababa.
They discussed economic development activities in Africa and exchanged views on ongoing collective efforts to address the root causes of the recurring cycle of violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Secretary-General briefed the Chairperson of the AU Commission on UN efforts to implement resolution 2085 on the situation in Mali. They discussed the UN strategic review on Somalia, including recommendations on the future UN presence in that country. The Secretary-General and the Chairperson of the AU Commission also reiterated support to the negotiations between Sudan and South Sudan.
