Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mrs. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairperson-elect of the African Union Commission, on the margins of the 67th General Assembly

The Secretary-General met with Mrs. Dlamini-Zuma, AU Chairperson-elect in the margins of the 67th session of the General Assembly.
The Secretary-General congratulated Mrs. Dlamini-Zuma on her election as AU Chairperson.

They discussed the need to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the AU and the UN, not only on peace and security issues but also more on the sustainable development agenda.  As priority issues for Africa, the Secretary-General underlined primary education, poverty eradication, response to natural disasters, and renewable energy.  The two leaders agreed to work closely together on these areas of common concern.
