Readout of Secretary-General's telephone conversation with Lebanon's Prime Minister

The Secretary-General spoke by telephone today with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

Noting his concern about the situation in Syria, the Secretary-General expressed strong support for the efforts of the Prime Minister to protect Lebanon's stability and security. The Secretary-General underscored the Syrian Government's responsibility to stop firing into Lebanon, and he expressed regret for Lebanese casualties.

He also noted with concern the recent assassination attempts against Lebanese political leaders.

The Secretary-General also expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Mikati for Lebanon's 2012 contribution to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, an important demonstration of Lebanon's commitment to the rule of law.
